Not launching anymore

I got the app just under a year ago to keep a daily journal of my 2nd sons first year. I kept a paper one for my 1st and it seemed easier to keep a digital one since we were planning on keeping a digital version for both eventually anyways. I liked the app very much because i could add pictures or change the fond and I could type the entry anywhere my phone was. The launching had gotten slower over the time I had it and I tried to keep backups in Dropbox which would sometimes take a loooong time to do. Now I cant open the version on the phone anymore, it just wont launch. Like someone described before, it would try and then go back to the home screen. Since the issue became that bad I have kept a separate journal, loaded the app on another device and can restore the back up but I still lost 12 days from before the backup. In principal it is a good app but if it cant handle all the data then there is no use. If you do use it, backup regularly!!!
